The Philippines is quickly becoming one of the most desirable destinations in South East Asia. As soon as we saw photos of the untouched, palm lined, white sand beaches, with the most incredibly blue water – we booked our flights to get there as soon we could.
The best thing is that there is so much more than this to the Philippines: spread throughout the 7,107 islands that make up the Philippines there are a huge amount of incredible experiences to be had. So in no particular order, here are our top reasons to visit the Philippines:
1. Swim with Turtles in Apo Island
The tiny Apo island is most famous for one thing, turtles! There are so many of these amazing creatures chilling in the surrounding sea that you’re basically guaranteed to see them when you go snorkelling/diving.
2. Visit Kawasan Falls, Cebu
Kawasan falls is probably the most famous waterfall in the Philippines. The water really is that blue in real life! If you want to experience it without the crowds, aim to get there about 7am – having this incredible waterfall basically to yourselves is so worth the early wake-up. You can also book Canyoneering trips from Moalboal/Badian in which you will be scaling and cliff jumping from the surrounding waterfalls and then finish in Kawasan falls. We did this and it was a real highlight of our trip.
3. Surf in Siargao
Siargao is the surfing capital of the Philippines. General Luna is home to the famous surf break ‘Cloud 9’, among with many others. Plus, you don’t need to be into surfing to enjoy Siargao, it’s a chilled out island paradise anyway, check out our guide here
4. Go Island Hopping in El Nido
El Nido is often the main attraction for people visiting the Philippines, and rightly so; on the island hopping tours you will get to experience some of the most beautiful landscapes and hidden beaches you’ll have ever seen… you really wont believe your eyes!
5. Jump from this spot in Salagdoong Beach, Siquijor
Siquijor is one of the less visited islands in the Philippines, but is every bit as beautiful as the others. The picture perfect Salagdoong beach has this famous diving board, perfect for plunging into that incredible blue water.
6. See Untouched Beauty in Coron
Coron is often described as an untouched, and less touristy El Nido – with some of the most beautiful beaches and landscapes in the Philippines. Chances are that it won’t stay that way for long, so hurry to this paradise.
7. Eat the Best Mangos in the World
Everyone who has been to the Philippines will tell you, the mangos are the best in the world! We tried to eat as many as possible while we were there.
8. Kayak Through Breathtaking Lagoons
The Philippines has some incredible lagoons: Big & Small Lagoon (El Nido), Sugba Lagoon (Siargao) & Twin Lagoon (Coron). Snorkelling and Kayaking around these is an incredible experience.
