Sydney Food Guide

One of our favourite things about Sydney was the food scene! There are so many amazing places to eat.. from healthy brunches, to streets full of outdoor BYO asian restaurants – there is everything you could ever want! We tried to visit as many places as possible during our time there, here’s a list of our favourite spots:

The Depot, North Bondi

This was one of our favourite breakfasts ever, and it’s in such a cool, quiet corner of North Bondi. Would highly recommend the halloumi stack – pictured below!

Spice Alley, Chippendale

Such a fun place to head to find lots of different asian street food vendors – you can BYOB too!

The Grounds of Alexandria, Alexandria

This place is so beautiful that it’s worth a visit even without the food! But you definitely should eat as the food is amazing. Theres a lovely cafe inside, and lots of outdoor food stands which serve a range of delicious and creative pizzas, burgers, salads and so on.

Shuk, Bondi

This is such a cool little cafe/restaurant near North Bondi. We arrived after they had closed the kitchen, but we got sandwiches which were to die for, and the coffee was unreal.

Cali Press

Cali Press is the absolute spot for smoothies, and (our favourite) smoothie bowls! You’ll find them throughout Sydney, and they have outlets in places like Bondi, Bronte & Coogee – which makes them the perfect beach meal.

Bondi Tony’s, Bondi

Bondi Tony’s is one of those special places that makes you so grateful someone bought it into existence. It’s easily been our favourite burger in Australia so far, winning on both quality and portion size – which is rare! On top of that it’s such a fun spot – perfect on a Saturday night for a burger and a few drinks.

The Newport

The Newport is the dream spot for a sunny day. It’s huge, with so much outside seating, and loads of different sections with a variety of different food, including huge portions of incredible buffalo wings! It’s owned by Merivale, who have great restaurants and bars all over Sydney, and you can always rely on them for delicious food & drinks.

Coogee Pavilion, Coogee

This is another of (in our opinion) Merivale’s best venues. The 2 floor venue has an amazing terrace with the most incredible view overlooking Coogee beach, so it’s perfect for a sunny day – and even better to watch the sunset. Downstairs does everything you’d expect to find in a great bar, from pizza, salad, burgers, steaks. Whereas upstairs has a Lebanese menu which is perfect for sharing. We got pretty addicted to their hummus and wood fire stretch pide, so so good.

But the best part is that they have one of our favourite beers, Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, on tap and served by the pint!

Upper East Side, Bondi

Such a fun and buzzy dinner spot in a great location in central Bondi. The menu consists of lots of small plates, which are great for sharing, and the cocktails are amazing.. the ‘mokatini’ (mocha espresso martini) blew our minds.

Blue Monkey Thai, Randwick

It’s definitely worth checking out the restaurants in Randwick, as there are some lovely ones. We loved the thai at Blue Monkey – BYO Thai is always a favourite for us, and this one was amazing!

Concrete Jungle, Chippendale

As soon as we saw this CJ’s blue majik smoothie bowl we knew we had to go! It really didn’t disappoint – the kitchen is so creative and you can see the pride they take in what they do to. So worth checking out if you’re in the city.

Sababa, Bondi & Bondi Junction

The.Best.Falafel… the portions are also huge for what you pay.

San Antonio Bakery, Coogee

This place was unexpectedly one of our favourite breakfast spots – not only do they make some of the best bread we’ve ever tried, they make delicious dishes to go along with it! It was so reasonable and everything was so tasty – we were always so impressed by how well they perfected the simple things like scrambled eggs & toast.

The Hemingway, Manly

We stopped in here by chance for a late breakfast while exploring Manly, and we’re so glad we did, the food and coffee was amazing!  They’re also open late, and have good happy hours – so it seems like a great spot for the evening too.

Another amazing spot for smoothie bowls! There are cafes all over Sydney, and they have one right by Coogee beach too, which is perfect on a hot day.

The Beresford, Surry Hills

This is another Merivale venue, this time in the City. It has a super cute outdoor seating area, cosy indoors that reminded us of a pub in London and happy hours Monday-Friday! Merivale venues do amazing pizza – so we would always come here for that.

We hope you guys love these places as much as we did!
